As a member of the All India Christian Council (aicc), the India Group of OM Ministries helps protect the rights of Indian Christians across the nation. Established in 1998, aicc has fought and won legal cases to ensure that the minority Indian Christian community and the marginalized Dalit community receive justice. Apart from legal activities, aicc has been involved in staging rallies to create awareness on social justice and relief work for victims of communal atrocities. The aicc has gained recognition from Christians across the nation and receives numerous requests for intervention for instances of injustice and discrimination.
2009 marks a year full of relief and recovery for Christians and Dalits in India.
Justice, mercy and reconciliation ministries are the hallmark of OM India’s social justice work through the All India Christian Council. Recent months have brought terror for Christians and Dalits in the state of Orissa. Thousands of Christians (mostly Dalits) in the state of Orissa in Eastern India have been victims of intense physical persecution as a result of false rumors and the resulting misdirected retaliation by those opposed to Christianity and the empowerment of the Dalit people.
Thousands have been left homeless, injured, and devastated by this terrible assault against humanity and against the principles of religious freedom in India, the world’s largest democracy. These prolonged attacks affected the victims physically and emotionally, none of them equipped to recover. Even today, most still live in fear and in even worse poverty.
OM India and the All India Christian Council (AICC) continue their efforts with partners around the world to provide relief and rehabilitation, and to ensure global government authorities raise the issue of religious freedom in their own forums and within their own spheres of influence.
OM India and the AICC want to share the love of Christ both in word and in deed with those who were abused, proclaiming to the entire nation that God’s people will show compassion in the midst of tribulation.
