Ramu, a poverty-stricken Dalit learns about Christ because the local GSCC pastor chooses to serve him. Pastor Pradip of a GSCC located in the North India still remembers the day when Ramu (age 60) limped to meet him after a GSCC Sunday service. Ramu was involved in a road accident in late December 2008. He sustained a large wound injury on his right leg. However, being a poverty-stricken Dalit and the only earning member of his family, Ramu returned to work immediately after receiving first aid. As days passed by, the pain intensified. Finally, Ramu learned at a local hospital that the wound had turned cancerous. Ramu knew that neither he nor his family members could afford the medical expenses involved, and he resigned to die a slow and painful death. It was at this time that Ramu met Pastor Pradip. Pastor Pradip prayed with Ramu and helped him learn more about the Living God. However, he knew he could not leave the man to suffer the agony and pain in which he was. Pastor Pradip spoke to the GSCC regional leaders and had Ramu meet them. When they saw his suffering, they were determined to help. Ramu was taken to a Christian hospital where he was told that an amputation would prevent the cancer from spreading. The local GSCC team spurred into action and willingly bore the expenses of Ramu’s treatment. Just before the operation, Ramu’s son arrived grudgingly at the hospital. He had not forgiven his father for choosing to believe in the Good News. However, he was astonished in the manner in which Ramu was taken care by the local GSCC team. Their love and compassion changed his heart and he decided to stay. Ramu’s operation was successful and he is recuperating nicely. He will soon be able to walk with the help of crutches. Having witnessed true love and compassion in action, Ramu’s son has had a change of heart. Today he and the entire family attend the local GSCC where Pastor Pradip offers them spiritual counsel. |
